Adler vs Jung and Evangelical vs. Mainline Theology
    D. Kristen Small · 6/13/96 at 5:21 PM ET

I am a pastoral counseling resident at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. I've been interested in Adler for a long time. Something I have noticed is that those theological traditions that are more liberal in nature, namely the mainline Christian denomination, seem to be very enthused about Jungian psychology. Many I have talked to have a disdain for Adler and Individual Psychology. On the other hand, many more conservative theologican, that is those primarily from Evangelical Christianity seem to embrace Adler and Cognitive Therapy and disdain Jung. My question is what is about Jung that appeals to, let say, a Episcopal? What is it about Adler that appeals to so many evangelicals, let say a Southern Baptist.
