Default Re: Global Warming Cools Down

Here's more stuff, inspired by a passing sound bite from Art Bell's program on the long term warming and cooling phenomena in our solar system. I did my "Google" not on global warming but global cooling. And the first two entries are from Drudge...

"Global temperatures 'to decrease'
"Global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have said. By Roger Harrabin
"BBC News environment analyst
"The World Meteorological Organization's secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the summer.
"This would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.
"But experts say we are still clearly in a long-term warming trend - and they forecast a new record high temperature within five years.

World Bank accused of climate change "hijack"
Fri Apr 4, 2008 5:26am EDT
By Ed Cropley
BANGKOK (Reuters) - Developing countries and environmental groups accused the World Bank on Friday of trying to seize control of the billions of dollars of aid that will be used to tackle climate change in the next four decades.
"The World Bank's foray into climate change has gone down like a lead balloon," Friends of the Earth campaigner Tom Picken said at the end of a major climate change conference in the Thai capital.
"Many countries and civil society have expressed outrage at the World Bank's attempted hijacking of real efforts to fund climate change efforts," he said.

Global Cooling?
by Dennis Avery
"The official thermometers at the U.S. National Climate Data Center show a slight global cooling trend over the last seven years, from 1998 to 2005...Actually, global warming is likely to continue—but the interruption of the recent strong warming trend sharply undercuts the argument that our global warming is an urgent, man-made emergency. The seven-year decline makes our warming look much more like the moderate, erratic warming to be expected when the planet naturally shifts from a Little Ice Age (1300–1850 AD) to a centuries-long warm phase like the Medieval Warming (950–1300 AD) or the Roman Warming (200 BC– 600 AD)...Bob Carter, a paleoclimatologist from Australia, notes that the earth also had strong global warming between 1918 and 1940. Then there was a long cooling period from 1940 to 1965. He points out that the current warming started 50 years before cars and industries began spewing consequential amounts of CO2. Then the planet cooled for 35 years just after the CO2 levels really began to surge. In fact, says Carter, there doesn't seem to be much correlation between temperatures and man-made CO2...For context, Carter offers a quick review of earth's last 6 million years. The planet began that period with 3 million years in which the climate was several degrees warmer than today. Then came 3 million years in which the planet was basically cooling, accompanied by an increase in the magnitude and regularity of the earth's 1500-year Dansgaard-Oeschger climate cycles..."

Question Polar Bears

I understand polar bears are now a protected, endangered species as the ice shelf vanishes.

Glenn Beck, however, announces that polar bears have increased from 5000 to 25000 and the ice shelf is now larger than ever before.

Beck, this morning, noted polar bears to be overweight, slugs too slow to catch game, that live off baby seals by waiting for one to come past and jumping into the sea before it can swim away.

Darwin might predict faster, leaner polar bears if we stayed out of their problem...not that they have a problem.

As for their hunting strategy, I find functional similarities to those used by our congress...don't draw their attention and you live longer and with greater freedom!

PS: Rumors...this was the coldest April in 13 years and there has been no global change in temperature for the past ten...and the believers have already included this cooling into their predictions...

Talking Jupiter Gets Hotter?

There are rumors that elements in the European Union are more openly skeptical of the global warming craze. On the other hand, Gore is now on a landing mission to Jupiter and will sell carbon credits.

JimB

"For about 300 years Jupiter's banded atmosphere has shown a remarkable feature to telescopic viewers, a large swirling storm system known as The Great Red Spot. In 2006, another red storm system appeared, actually seen to form as smaller whitish oval-shaped storms merged and then developed the curious reddish hue. Now, Jupiter has a third red spot, again produced from a smaller whitish storm. All three are seen in this image made from data recorded on May 9 and 10 with the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2....Jupiter's recent outbreak of red spots is likely related to large scale climate change as the gas giant planet is getting warmer near the equator."

Cool Vaclav Klaus Heats Up

He's President of the Czech Republic and pushing his book but that doesn't make him wrong!

JimB

from Earth Times:

"Czech President Klaus ready to debate Gore on climate change
Washington - Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms. 'I many times tried to talk to have a public exchange of views with him, and he's not too much willing to make such a conversation,' Klaus said. So I'm ready to do it.'

"Klaus was speaking a the National Press Building in Washington to present his new book, Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What Is Endangered: Climate or Freedom?, before meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney Wednesday.

"My answer is it is our freedom and, I might add, and our prosperity," he said.

Gore a former US vice president who has become a leading international voice in the cause against global warming, was co-winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Gore's effort was highlighted by his Oscar winning documentary film An Inconvienent (sic!) Truth.

Klaus, an economist, said he opposed the "climate alarmism" perpetuated by environmentalism trying to impose their ideals, comparing it to the decades of communist rule he experienced growing up in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia.

"Like their (communist) predecessors, they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality," he said.

"In the past, it was in the name of the Marxists or of the proletariat - this time, in the name of the planet," he added.

"Klaus said a free market should be used to address environmental concerns and said he oppposed as unrealistic regulations or greenhouse gas capping systems designed to reduce the impact of climate change.

"It could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda," he said.

"Klaus alleged that the global warming was being championed by scientists and other environmentalists whose careers and funding requires selling the public on global warming.

"'It is in the hands of climatologists and other related scientists who are highly motivated to look in one direction only,' Klaus said. "

Cool Only the Brits?

The Brits, according to Thomas Sowell, unilaterally decreed slavery to be immoral and sent their warships to enforce their opinion on whomever held slaves. They may be up to it again. Nobility? Or a replay of South Seas Bonds? Or could it be one more instance of a Bose-Einstein Condensate wherein a crisis leads scattered opinions to merge and make a swarm of their carriers!

from Grassfire.org

"The Daily Mail is reporting that Britain's Environmental Audit Committee is pushing the idea that "every adult should be forced to use a 'carbon ration card' when they pay for petrol, airline tickets or household energy. Climate Alarmism in England has gotten so bad that the British face the prospects of having to punch their "carbon card" every time they fill up or fly a plane! And don't think for a minute that "carbon ration cards" won't find their way to the Democratic-controlled Congress, especially when all the presidential candidates are pushing Climate Alarmism."

On the other hand...I read too many motorcycle magazines from Brit sources. Despite the web of cameras, hidden or exposed, there has been little effect because every step taken by the Ministry of Transport elicits countermoves from fun-loving cheaters! Irony: the same guys who bust the rules on their bikes become heroes when traditionalists are threatened by someone else's rule-breakers.

Pass out the ration cards and the "weak links" will cheerfully, eagerly cooperate a little bit while cheating like hell...

Cool Global: "What a scam"

Coleman founded the weather channel. He has thoughts about Mr. Gore and his swarm. I share them. One of my clients sobbed in her middle school class after seeing the Gore film. He earned a hundred million but is not worth one of her tears...

JimB

"Global Warming and the Price of a Gallon of Gas

by John Coleman

"You may want to give credit where credit is due to Al Gore and his global warming campaign the next time you fill your car with gasoline, because there is a direct connection between Global Warming and four dollar a gallon gas. It is shocking, but true, to learn that the entire Global Warming frenzy is based on the environmentalist's attack on fossil fuels, particularly gasoline. All this big time science, international meetings, thick research papers, dire threats for the future; all of it, comes down to their claim that the carbon dioxide in the exhaust from your car and in the smoke stacks from our power plants is destroying the climate of planet Earth. What an amazing fraud; what a scam."

Question Stabilization...

This makes sense...things that perturb easily are seen as immature. They also crash sooner rather than after 4 billion years. In the evolution of species and of atmospheres, smaller steps are to be expected although big ones...like a series of major earthquakes...remain possible. (Omigod! How bad was that!)

Anyhew...

"Has Global Warming Research Misinterpreted Cloud Behavior?
June 12, 2008

"...The paper¹s lead author, Dr. Roy W. Spencer, a principal research scientist at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, believes the work is the first step in demonstrating why climate models produce too much global warming.

"Spencer and his co-author, principal research scientist William (Danny) Braswell, used a simple climate model to demonstrate that something as seemingly innocuous as daily random variations in cloud cover can cause year-to-year variation in ocean temperature that looks like -- but isn't --"positive cloud feedback," a warmth-magnifying process that exists in all major climate models.

"Our paper is an important step toward validating a gut instinct that many meteorologists like myself have had over the years," said Spencer, "that the climate system is dominated by stabilizing processes, rather than destabilizing processes -- that is, negative feedback rather than positive feedback."

"The paper doesn't disprove the theory that global warming is manmade.
Instead, it offers an alternative explanation for what we see in the climate system which has the potential for greatly reducing estimates of mankind's impact on Earth's climate."

Thumbs up Re: Global Warming Cools Down

Jim

I've read your posts on global warming and loved every one. You have hit the nail on the head.

Climatologists are predicting a cool down due to a lack of solar flare activity from the sun.

I guess we could ask this question...Global Warming or Global Governance?
If the global elitists can get the U.S.A to sign global treaties issued by the U.N then our laws and statutes become null and void.

and we will have to buy carbon credits ...$$BIG$$money scheme sorta like a church making people buy indulgencies.

Keep Up the Good Work Jim!

Mike

Question Re: Global Warming Cools Down

Thanks for your encouragement...

Global Warming is a coin toss, created from primate minds that turn "maybe" to "either-or."

Folks panic, holler for "somebody" to DO something, and when unanswered, solve their own problems (usually).

And if they fail, the next generation will try something different.
