Arrow Announcing: 2008 International Conference on PhotoTherapy & Therapeutic Photography

Announcing the: "2008 International Conference on PhotoTherapy* and Therapeutic Photography**"
June 12 to June 18, 2008 in beautiful Turku, Finland:

Two days of pre-conference workshops, three days of conference events, and also some photo exhibitions (and post-conference tours)...

*-- Phototherapy: Using photos and photography as a part of psychotherapy or therapy practice with clients.

**-- Therapeutic photography: Photography as a therapeutic activity for personal insight and self-expression.

Note re: both topics above -- The themes are deliberately left open to encourage abstracts about the different approaches practiced throughout the world.

All of the "big names" in both fields have been invited to speak --
and many more people will be coming from all over the world to give presentations
about how they use these techniques themselves -- and to network with others who will be there -- during Pre-Conference workshops and Conference's presentations, poster sessions, and photo exhibitions...

So far the already-confirmed "Key Invited Speakers" are listed below (note that dozens of other current practitioners/researchers/educators will also be presenting too!).

IMPORTANT: the "Call for proposals for presentations and poster sessions" is now available on the Conference website -- deadline for submitting proposals has been extended to January 15, 2008. See the conference website for additional information (and to see the full bio's of the people listed below).

*Conference website where you can learn more:
http://www.congress.utu.fi/phototherapy08

*Perhaps first read the formal introductory announcement at:
http://members.boardhost.com/phototh...177520999.html

-- INVITED SPEAKERS about PhotoTherapy:

Early pioneers (all of whom are well-published in this field):

Canadian Psychologist, Art Therapist, and photographer, Judy Weiser
(for more about her, see:
http://www.phototherapy-centre.com )

and also David Krauss (American psychologist and photographer) and Joel Walker (Canadian psychiatrist and photographer) -- info about these other two, along with their bio's, can be found at:
http://www.phototherapy-centre.com/widww.htm

as well as "newer folks", such as:

Mark Wheeler (UK Art Psychotherapist and family therapist, and initiator of the soon-to-be-public website for the British PhotoTherapy group)

Carmine Parrella (Italian psychologist who uses both PhotoTherapy and VideoTherapy techniques, and who coordinated Weiser's PhotoTherapy training workshop last year),

Francisco Aviles-Gutierrez (Mexican psychologist, family therapist, and photographer and incoming President of the International Therapy Association -- who has taken private training with Weiser),

along with the Conference coordinator Ulla Halkola herself -- she's a psychotherapist and photographer, who coordinated workshops in Finland for Weiser, Martin, and others over the past years -- and who and has her own very interesting work; for more about this see:
www.spectrovisio.net
(note the line under the photos for linking to the English version)

-- INVITED SPEAKERS about Therapeutic Photography:

British pioneer Jo Spence (although deceased, her work and accompanying photo exhibition will be given by her official Archivist Terry Dennett)

Rosy Martin -- another British early pioneer well known in this field,

as well as "newer folks" such as

Brigitte Anor -- Director of a photo-related art therapy training program in Israel --

Lauri Mannermaa -- Finnish psychologist and photographer

and many others

IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO in order to stay informed about this event:

1) go to the Conference website itself to stay current because pages are updated often re: new info:
http://www.congress.utu.fi/phototherapy08

2) If you want to get on the list for notification for the "call for proposals", as well as receive regular updates related to the Conference itself, please contact the Conference Coordinator, Ms. Ulla Halkola directly: ulla.halkola@utu.fi

her phone number is: + 358 2 3336217 --
from U.S. or Canada, you would dial this way*: 011-358-2-333-6217
-- *Please remember please the time-zone differences -- for example, it is 7 hours later in Finland, than in New York or Montreal)!

3) It will also be useful to keep checking the "Discussion Group" page of the "PhotoTherapy Techniques" Website regularly, as any updates will also be posted there [a link to this is on the PhotoTherapy website itself, at:
http://www.phototherapy-centre.com]

I hope to see you there,

Judy
