Cool Manhattan Socialism

Matt Ridley (1996, Origins of Virtue) gives examples of tribes managing water, hunting, and fishing assets until those assets are taken over by a government. Massive cheating begins along with contests to see how much you get and with what kinds of complaints. Mental health services are notorious for such cheating. There are other Government Standards of Excellence: bailouts, health care, AmTrak, the Postal Service, Social Security, government schools, FCC rules, trucking regulations, food distribution, neighborhood organizations, racial preferences, abortion, and sex education. And,now Rahm Emanuel asks in our Census “What do you have?”

Meanwhile, here’s a NYC clipping that makes the point:

“NY Car Ticketed Repeatedly With Dead Body Inside. NYC Woman Believes Her Father Lay Dead Inside His Car For Weeks While Police Wrote Tickets Over And Over”
