Default CBT training

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I would like to know how someone who just graduated could receive training in CBT. I have an Msc in clinical psychology and i am particularly intersted in CBT. The problem is that most of CBT training courses are designed for qualified professionals as a result I am not a strong cantidate. In order to continue my professional development after my studies i have bought a number of CBT books and I am even thinking to buy CBT videos. However, I still need the practice and i feel that these are not enough. My question is that whether i can practice CBT even though I have not receive training and professional supervision.

Thank you very much for your time.

Default Re: CBT training for the newly graduated

If you've just finished grad school, you're likely to be practicing under supervision for a while. One good option at that point is to see if you can get supervision from an experienced CBT therapist.

Of course, that may or may not be an option depending on where you are located. If you already have an internship, job, or whatever lined up, check and see if any of the available supervisors have a background in CBT. If you are interviewing for a position, ask whether CBT supervision is available.

You could also check the Academy of Cognitive Therapy directory (http://www.AcademyofCT.org), the AABT directory (http://www.aabt.org), and the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy directory (http://www.cognitivetherapyassociation.org/) to see if they list anyone in your area. If they do, contact thost individuals and ask them about options for training or supervision.
