Re: dissociative disorder
One is dissociative if there are whole parts of the self and ones history that are put away in a "closet" or "compartment" or "pocket" (all metaphors clients have used) far away in the minds eye.
Common symptoms include: feeling unreal or as if one is looking at oneself or standing next to or behind oneself, hearing voices that comment on what one is doing, sometimes those voices are very harsh, sometimes losing time (minutes, hours, days or even weeks), not being sure if something really happened or was just imagined. Sometimes dissociative people also have nightmares and flashbacks or unexplained bodily pains that the medical doctors say there is no medical cause for. |
