Greetings from Forum Moderator

Welcome to this forum. It is intended to be of use to both the lay public and to practitioners and researchers. I have been moderating this forum for several years at the request of Dr Francine Shapiro, the originator of EMDR.

EMDR has triggered alot of interest, with over 60,000 individuals trained in its use around the world. There is substantial research supporting its use for PTSD at this point (see www.emdr.com for research information). Critics and skeptics are welcome, as long as posts are respectful.

Enjoy the archives and please post your questions and comments. Thanks for making the forum a rich learning environment.

Hi

i have an 11 yr. old special needs stepdaughter that was sexually abused by her uncle. I am feeling very uncomfortable about the suggested use of this therapy because of her limited ability to express her feelings when under going this therapy. Anybody have any suggested advise?

Sometimes EMDR can be combined with other methods such as sand tray or art therapy or dolls, to help a child express herself when words might fail her. Often, though, the results obtain even without articulation of the feelings.
