Resiliency Scales for Children

Dear Colleague:

Harcourt Assessment, Inc. is developing the Resiliency Scales for Children (RESIL). The RESIL is a self-report instrument that can be used separately, or in combination with additional assessments, to assess personal strengths as well as vulnerabilities within children. The RESIL can identify patterns of strengths in three different scales: mastery, relatedness and emotional.

The standardization phase of RESIL is scheduled to begin data collection in mid-October 2005 through the beginning of May 2006. Since the RESIL is a self-report, it may be given in a group setting or individually. Clinical Psychologists, School Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists, Teachers, Counselors, Social Workers, Neuropsychologists and Educational Diagnosticians are welcome to participate in data collection for the RESIL.

Children needed to test in the standardization include 9.0–14.11 years of age. The sample includes typically developing children as well as the following clinical categories: Depression Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder or Conduct Disorder. All clinical cases must have a recent diagnosis within the last three months and the diagnosis must follow the DSM–IV criteria, diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist. In addition to the RESIL standardization, some children may be required to complete one or more validity tests.

The administration time for the RESIL is projected to take less than 10 minutes. Compensation for examiners and children is $10.00. If a validity is needed, examiners and children will be compensated for each validity test that is administered. If you are interested in participating as a testing site, the site is eligible for an additional payment. For more details about becoming a site please contact the project coordinator for the RESIL standardization.

If you have access to the above mentioned children and are interested in participating in the RESIL standardization, please contact me at 1.800.233.5686 ext. 5221 or katherine_coffey@harcourt.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Please visit the following website:

www.harcourtassessment.com

and type in the Keyword Search: Field Testing or Becoming an Examiner

This will allow you to see what Harcourt Assessment is working on and, also, if you are interested, you can take steps to become an examiner and help Harcourt in the development of different tests.

You can always call 800-233-5686 and speak with someone about this opportunity.
