Mel Gibson: Conversation at 3:35 AM

Host Steve Sommers (WLW, 700 AM, Cincinnati) argued with a trucker named “Animal” as I came awake.

Animal insisted that there is no dividing the dirt, Gibson has the entire blame for conflicts with his wife.

Sommers, older and wiser and a husband of 27 years, remarked, “Women can be cunning, lying, sneaky little creatures that test you to your limits.”

Sommers is correct: nature failed to give one sex all the virtue although it seems that way as cultures stabilize. And there is little argument that women choose the men who are worth keeping, train sons into such men, and insist that school teachers, psychologists, cops, and lawyers help.

Further, women’s choices turn with time and weather: the Greek wives sent their husbands and sons to war with orders to return with their shield or to return lying on it. As to social fairness, some folks argue that we will have an equal society when there are equal outcomes for men and for women. That is, women should earn more than they do.

Implication: our laws are fair when there is an equal number of men and women in jail.

Further, neither Sommers nor Animal recalled that Gibson’s father was probably nuts and that Gibson, with time, may take on more of his father’s traits.
