Should I go back?

I had four or five EMDR sessions last September/October for severe anxiety. It was very successful and my free floating anxiety, which was off the graph, completely disappeared.

Last month, I had a further session because I was having to face one of my biggest fears. Unfortunately, when I faced the situation my anxiety returned and was worse than ever.

Do you think i should go back to my therapist. From what I,ve read here, the procedure was carried out correctly.

Please reply soon as I am absolutely desperate.

Thank you

Pheobe Jones

Re: SHOULD I GO BACK?

Pheobe, regrettably this is not a place where you can receive specific case recommendations, since we really don't have sufficient history to do you justice.

Either your therapist or a second opinion therapist is best positioned to have an appropriate and thorough history, understand what happened, and formulate an appropriate plan.

In general, when one does EMDR and symptoms resolve completely, the exact same symptoms about the exact same problem don't recur. Sometimes similar feelings about a different matter may occur as the next layer peels up. I have no idea whether this applies in your case or not.

Sometimes therapists benefit from a case consultation.
