Is this observation applicable to people?
 

I've heard about following experiment done on rats. Young rats have been put into 2 groups. All the animals were initially of nearly the same weight, state of body etc. From that moment forth the treatment of groups was quite different. First group has been fed on very restricted diet so the rats were always hungry in it. Second group got as many food as the animals might have eaten.
The result of experiment is very intriguing. The rats of the first group have lived one third longer than the rats of the second one.
At first i'd like to know about the references to this experiment if it really has been done.
Is it known something about analogous test conducted on people?
If not, would human's negative emotions change the result of the test?
