Self Absorbed
I have a friend who seems to always turn any situation into a conversation of how he is better at this or that. His faith is stronger, his toys are better, he has done it all. I see this person spend very little time with his family unless it is an activity HE wishes to do. I have strarted to see similar patterns in his 10 year old son. Others in our small group of friends also see this behaivor. He is a very outgoing person who can be very funny and it aboviusly intelligent. What is this type of behaouivr called and what can you tell me about it.

Re: Self Absorbed
Well... This is just my unprofessional guess so take it or leave it as you see fit...
Typically... I find that people who are keen to talk themselves up do that because they feel inferior or insecure in themselves. What they seem to be looking for is some validation / support from the environment. Something along the lines of 'wow yes, your faith is pretty strong' and 'yes, i see, that is a very cool toy!'. Narcissism. That might be the term you are looking for... |
Re: Self Absorbed
You could take the time to listen to this person. Ask him straigt away why he does this. Ask him if he feels insecure.

Re: Self Absorbed
I thought this was a website for professionals but I see every other thread is from lay people who are seeking advice on personal problems.
