CBT stress management reduces risk of recurrent heart attacks

For a long time we've known that stress contributes to a variety of medical problems and it has made sense that stress management programs would have health benefits. A recent study provides striking evidence that this is the case. A controlled outcome study reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that when individuals recovering from a heart attack participated in CBT stress management groups (n=192), they had 45% fewer recurrent heart attacks when compared with individuals who received treatment as usual (n=170).
