EMDR and Positive Imagery
 

Am developing a Model of Care approach for our work with women emerging from relationships with anti socials, socio and psychopaths. Their 'traumatic memories' are often related to positive images that are stuck like cognitive loops (when he behaved well, the 1 time in 10 years he was kind, etc.). They actually are requesting treatment for positive memory seepage, if you will. Have you heard of that? How does EMDR work for that?

There is a substantial amount known about using EMDR to strengthen internal resources. See RDI (resource development installation) at the Francine Shapiro Library at http://library.nku.edu/emdr/emdr_data.php. So one could use RDI to strengthen the capacity to notice the positive imagery without losing oneself.

Also, Jim Knipe has written about doing EMDR on things like dread, or longing, and it's also been used for urge reduction a la A.J. Popky deTUR protocol.

I'd have the client just notice the positive attraction, and keep going back to that. I'm pretty sure they'd get to the long term consequence and the "glow" of the yearning or positive sense would decrease over time. I'd like to hear how it turns out for you, so maybe you could post it here.
