The term "having sex" is a phrase with an important subtext of sexual bigotry. What does "having sex" mean? It is taken for granted that readers will just know that "having sex" must mean the same thing for everyone. And, so, if you're "having sex" in a way that is different from someone else's "having sex," then you must be.....well, I'll let Church Lady tell you: "Perverted by your swollen groin parts that belong to whom---SATAN!" Albert Ellis has written and spoken at amusing lengths about the various kinds of sexual bigotry (though not so amusingly as the Saturday Night Live parody of Church Lady). One expression of sex bigotry is the expression "having sex" with the presumption that eveyone must know what this refers to. This phraae, then, "having sex," is one expression of an implcit sexual bigotry that would have us believe that "having sex" is the same for everyone. It is a tacit instruction to regard yourself as perverted in you "have sex" differently. The presmption that "having sex" consitutes the same kind of sexual activity for you as it does for me and it does for everyone is not only bigotry but also silliness. Nonetheless, when it is supposed that it is clear what "having sex" means, then we can expect to see persons who disagree be sent to gracious Chruch Ladies for instruction in sexual wrecktification.
