Survey finds 96 times per year is sex average The Durex Global Sex Survey researched people from across the globe to get a clear picture of the sexual attitudes and behaviour of the 16 to 55 age group. The survey found that people on average are having sex 96 times - well that's what they claim anyway! Men claim to be more sexually active than women, making love 103 times a year, compared to 88. Not surprisingly, the 25 to 35 age group are having the most sex with an average 113 times, compared with 16-20 year olds who still manage 89 times. The over 45s are well below the global average at just 67 times a year. More than half the respondents (57%) are having sex at least once a week, while just 4% claim to make love every day - they must be tired! Couples living together are the most sexually active with 146 sessions a year, while married people are making love 98 times. Single people not in a relationship are having the least sex at 49 times a year. The Americans claim to be enjoying the most sex at 132 times a year followed by the Russians (122), the French (121) and the Greeks (115). We don't recommend moving to Japan as they have the lowest frequency of sex at 37 times a year, followed by Malaysia (62) and China (69). We don't do too badly with South Africans coming in at 107 times per year - although you would think we could beat the British who manage 109 times per year. Where did you find out about sex? Well if you learnt about it from friends then you are not alone. A quarter of respondents said they received the most information from friends, with 15% getting information from school and only 12% learning about the birds and the bees from their mothers. It seems that people are losing their virginity earlier. While the average across all respondents was 18, among those between 16 and 20, the average was 16 years old. The good news was that this younger generation are far more likely to use contraception. Only 8% of the younger group admit to not using contraception compared to 24% of those over 45. More than half of respondents (58%) have changed their behaviour because of fears about contracting HIV/AIDS, with most choosing to have only one sexual partner (28%). However, this still leaves the global average for the number of sexual partners at 8,2. Check out the full survey on the durex.com website. This site's traffic is audited by Deloitte & Touche
