I feel it is important to distinguish belief in God from being a Christian. Belief in God simply relays faith that the universe is not an accident, and that there is a context in which we exist. Beliefs in God are as varied as the individuals who believe. Christianity is a very specific belief system. It has rules which must be followed. Christianity states categorically that premarital sex is a sin, masturbation is a sin, and homosexuality is a sin. These are not trivial or incidental suppositions, especially in the field of psychotherapy. When you claim the title of Christian Counselor, it conveys very specific values. I wonder, is a Christian Counselor "genuine" when working with someone they believe is going to hell? I don't believe the criticism of those who "enjoy bashing God in psychology" is either accurate or fair, at least in my case. It is a mistake to confuse belief in God with Christianity...they are by no means synonymous.
