I too would like to see much more open and scientific discussion of this topic. I can suggest that one reason for the very strong political and emotional positions on this issue, which limit or squelch discussion, seem to come about because of the very personal and deeply emotional aspects of individual sexuality. Sexuality is so deeply rooted to our personal identity that it cannot be treated objectively like alcoholism, drug addiction, etc. It appears right now that a lot of the media hype of the 90's generated by the very vocal pro-gay agenda is starting to dim, and unfortunately the spot light it raised on the gay community has now brought about more open riducule of gays in the media. Maybe as the rhetoric and politics subside somewhat real discussion and research can be conducted, if for no other reason, than a search for truth that is more than a few individuals' emotional zeal.
