Re: Maslow Hierarchy of Needs and level to fulfill -- doing things to promote need for achievement and the highest level of needs ought to be the target. You could review Rensis Leikert's articles on management systems. Part of his work was delineation of management systems. System 1 is autocratic -- really old fashion dictating boss style -- this style threatens security and keeps subordinates at the security seeking level. The management system which yields results as far as motivation for achievement is System 4 (known as participative management)which has a focus managers as coaches, resources, and helpers rather than dictating controlling evaluators. Managers now are moving into the coach/consultatnt role to help subordinates achieve. It also means moving into the role of teacher and it assumes high people skills analogous to the role of an orchestra conductor. Hope this is helpful -- should you want more info post a message.
