EMDR is naturally integrative or associative, so naturally it undoes dissociative structures. EMDR tends to decompress alters, make amnesia barriers thinner, increase coconsciousness. For some, alters blend or integrate spontaneously. For others, brief EMDR rituals for "walls coming down" are needed, but it is important that therapists never take down walls wihle they are still needed for containment. When we redo the interior of a house, we don't take down walls unless there is a plan that is sound to make sure the roof doesn't fall in! That's why planning and fractionation is helpful in ensuring work for dissociative clients is helpful not harmful.
