Abbee, I am aware that kidnappings, etc happen from 'online predators', however, I would imagine that FAR more happen from the pedophile who stakes out the playground or hangs around the mall then ever happen from 'online contact'. I am not downplaying that these things happen online. However, what I am trying to do is provide the other side to the coin. I agree it is important for people to be educated, but education requires having ALL the information. I strongly disagree with your comments that people who have to rely on the net to meet people 'have something wrong with them'. As I stated in my last post there are a number of reasons it is a popular socialization ground, for many, including intelligent educated people. You made the comment that I have been 'lucky' with my meetings. I tend to think luck has nothing to do with it. I am selective with whom I befriend 'online' just as I am in r/t. I can tell you nightmarish stories that occured from face to face meetings and relationships that NEVER had anything to do with the net. I have one very close friend who met her husband at a bar. He was new to the area so all she 'knew' about him was what he told her. They married a year later to be severely abused and controlled by him. Another friend met her husband while she was on vacation, he was from England and again all she knew was what he told her. They married 2 years later only to find out he was a convicted con-artist/rapist. They both have since divorced those men who lied about who and what they were. I happen to think the 'net' gets a bad rap. Yes, there are 'bad' people online but there are 'bad' people offline as well!
