I am a clinical psychology graduate student. I am also a participant/administrator on a message board regarding pets. Many of the members know that I am a student in psychology because I have many friends on there and have told them about my dissertation and also my status regarding comps, etc. I have always been careful in stating that I am no one's therapist on the board and that my posts are of my opinions and not of anything professional (unless I quote research for some reason - like the link between animal abuse and ASPD) Anyway, as administrator of the board, I had received complaints regarding his conduct, which had deteriorated considerably within the past few weeks (i.e., he started having all of his messages having sexual undertones, in general his messages were just very strange and were making people uncomfortable). Well, I sent him a private email stating that I had received complaints about his posts and that I was concerned about him, told him why I was concerned, and then suggested that he see a therapist. Did I overstep my bounds on this? I'm concerned because he took the message quite badly, even though I wrote it in the most sensitive manner. Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thank you.
