In psychology and psychiatry they do not have a set standard for what is to be considered normal. It is more set out in the form of a scale. Those who fall below a certain level due to their lack of "whatever" which is causing them to not be able to function in everyday life adequately. This disabling trait of theirs' i then scaled in regards to the severity of its disablitating effects in what is called an Axis. So its not so much just a group of Phd deemed grayheaded elders who decided what 'Normal' is going to be! Its more concluded, and re-concluded thru many revisions, by certain disablitating traits/symptoms that thru countless studies have shown up in similar situations to alas be catagorized under already catagorized abnormalities in the great Pschological Bible of Abnormalities known as the DSM-(IV now I think.) So, before being so critical to the (yes..unstable) science of Psychology, realize that it is hard work trying to blindly map out the interior of an individual human person. Excuss any misspelling, I am nothing without my spell checker.
