As an undergraduate student in social science I'm thinking of doing some research on the way members of a virtual community react to anti social behavior of other members of their group.
I would like to do this by experiment but I realize this might be an unethical way of doing research because you're basically fouling people. So I'm not sure if I can do this...
What I had in mind was something like this: defining some anti social roles (or statements or something..) that can be played in different community's and then look at the reactions of the others. This is a bit vague of course but what I like to know is: can I do this? (from an ethical point of view) and (if the answer to this question is a yes): what are the best known standards of anti social roles/ behavior (for example: an agressive person is someone with these characteristics) and how can (qualitative) reactions to these roles be categorized or standardized? (is there some scale on wich reactions can be scored?). Martijn.
