Okay, this subject line is REALLY old, but I'm replying anyway. ;-) On gender switching. heh. I spent WAY to much time on irc #lesbian channels and I too (as someone else here noted) feel I can spot male-posers pretty darned quick. However, I've also found that many times, those I've thought were posers turned out to be younger women. BTW, is it taboo? On lesbian chnls that wish to be female only, in the past (who knows how it is now) a lot of time and effort was spent on trying to determine if someone was truly male or female. (or man or woman) So yes, in some places it is frowned upon. Often I was assumed to be male bcz of my nickname. The 'o' at the end was taken to be a sign of a masculine person. (fortunately, over the years I met many of the women in RL so I had plenty of people to vouch for me.) However, I do now ID as transgendered and I've also spent quite a bit of time online in boy personna.
