Thanks, Jessica. I learn by studying and then by applying and practicing what I learn from studying. The printed word is an extraordinary thing. Consider how much of his life's energy Joesph Weiss has put into his extremely important theory. Consider how many others have also given him ideas from their life's work that are used in developing CMT theory. Then consider that all of this massive effort and hard work and careful thought can be summarized for others to learn and basically understand if they will but take about 5 to 10 to study his book! What a marvel the printed word is for those who will study it! Books are one of humankind's greatest treasures. Only food and human love and safety from physical harm rank as high as books. When I read a book by someone like Joseph Weiss I am in awe of the power of the printed word--of the awesome opportunity it provides us to be able to participate in what it took a genius years and years to come to understand by his own years and years of hard, hard work and thought. It saddens me when I see such a wonderful book sit on library shleves unread and on bookstore shelves unsold. And I find I have such a difficult time interesting others to take it off the shelf in order to study and think about what is inside those amazing pages so chock full of the most helpful wisdom ever written the all of psychology and psychiatry. The work of Joseph Weiss, moreover, is the only psychoanalytic approach to psychotherapy that, so far as I know, has met the standards of empirical reaearch suitable to publication in the prestigious periodical "Sceintific American." How could anyone who is a psychotherapist or a psychologist not feel inspired by this remarkable work--and not feel so inspired as to want to be able to savor every sentence this man has written and not be content until one feels one has completely understanding of every sentence? I really don't know the answer to that question. But it is a question that bothers me. Maybe someday I will know the answer. I sometimes think that unconsciously I already do know the answer but dread making it conscious.
