This point, that the processing of interoceptive stimuli is central to the construction of negative meaning generally in emotional disorder, is central to the Self-Regulatory Executive Function model outlined by Adrian Wells and colleagues. This aspect of metacognitive functioning helps explain the "knowing with the head versus knowing with the heart" phenomenon (without recourse to mysterious notions like "deep cognitive/emotion structures" outlined by other theories).
