I am a therapist, not a social activist, and as such, I can only help the person(s) sitting in my office. I often have clients who come in complaining about the people in their lives, and as long as they stay in that mode, they will continue to have the same problems. I can't help anyone who doesn't want to be helped; that goes for the client in my office, or the people in their lives who probably should be in counseling. But if I can help clients learn more effective ways of dealing with the difficult people in their lives, then they will be forever innoculated against the abuses of society. Alas, there will always be difficult and obnoxious people in this world; you can't control the behavior of others, you can only control your own behavior.
