    Paradoxical approaches
Jim Spira · 6/26/99 at 6:48 pm ET

A fan of Erickson and Haley, I like using the line "Well, it seems that there is nothing that will work for you, and you just have to resign yourself to being overcome with this disease." However, with this type of patient, my experience is that they tend to agree. Either I am not using the right approach, or else there is a level of pessimistic resignation that is very profound. Any further recommendations?
