Jim - nice intervention! and I like the Betty Ford idea, although I would definintely have to adjust my medication ;-).
Are you at all familiar with the concept of alexithymia? I have been toying with the idea that these kind of patients may well be physiologically alexithymic. So the idea of a highly structured environment works well. What I am not sure about is how to get them to internalize it; what do we do after the 6 week program? Offer graduate programs, and then start a 12 step program to stop depending on our programs. The heat must be getting to me!
