You already have received some excellent suggestions. A little different consderation may be that she cannot fathom herself as any other way. Perhaps an lighter approach that might bring out lost or hidden hopes and dreams for her life. These maybe completely nonrelated to the specific topic at hand but can begin the hope toward a different future without the focus being the health issues. Then attempting to find small steps, even one immediately obtainable step toward those hopes and dreams could begin to build the vision that dreams can come true. With that the motivation begins. As you assist with taking steps toward the dream, breaking things into obtainable pieces, the confidence and hope grows. With this the desired behavioral health components can then be slowly and gently suggested as optional steps in the process. The patient can then feel in control to choose the beginning with a larger picture in mind, save face, and not feel controlled by others. The big key is to add joy, fun, and spontaneity to the process. I hope this is not a useless trail. Best wishes.
