This is not an easy question. In general , most psychiatrist would say that true sociopaths are not treatable by psychiatric means. If you don't care about people and exploit others it is unlikely that talking will help. This is a bit more complicated if you look at the spectrum of sociopathy. In this case the underlying personality structure relates to prognosis. If the patient lies or steals and the core character pathology is at a neurotic level than this kind of patients can often be helpedin a psychotherapy. If the character is parnoid or severely narccisitic and there is sociopathy then these patients are on the edge of treatablity. Soem may be treatable with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or Object relations psychotherapy. Less severe personailty disorders with sociopathy are often capable of being help with CBT,dynamic psychotherapies
