
Donald Meichenbaum, Ph.D., is
one of the founders of the "cognitive revolution" in psychotherapy and
a major proponent of the constructivist perspective. He is professor of
psychology at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. A prolific
writer, researcher, and international lecturer, Meichenbaum is the author
of the classic Cognitive Behavior Modification: An Integrative
Approach (1977). His other books include Stress Reduction and
Prevention (Meichenbaum & Jaremko, 1983), Pain and Behavioral
Medicine: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach (Turk, Meichenbaum &
Genest, 1983), The Unconscious Reconsidered (Bowers & Meichenbaum,
1984), Stress Inoculation Training: A Clinical Guidebook (1985),
and Facilitating Treatment Adherence: A Practitioner's
Guidebook (Meichenbaum & Turk, 1987).
His latest book, Clinical Handbook/Treatment Manual for PTSD (1994) is an extraordinary compendium of information for clinicians and researchers working with persons suffering the effects of traumatic stress.
