NEW FOR 1997
January 3, 1997
We begin this (Happy New!) year with three new additions to Behavior OnLine.
The Evolutionary Psychology discussion forum is the place to discuss the role our genes play in shaping behavior. Clinical psychologist, James Brody, who facilitates the EP discussion, has the conviction that an understanding of natural selection processes can have a profound influence on work with patients and clients. Jim has compiled a list of links to Net resources on the topic and has written a background piece for us from which the following is excerpted:
"Thinking about the interplay of selection pressures upon our biological equipment should give us new insights and predictions about and control of our overt conduct. EP then tries to use those explanations to organize our ideas about contemporary human adaptive systems. EP thus gives us a convenient, organized set of organizational hooks for many existing bits of information about ourselves, ranging from the data on infant visual and taste preferences, to male-female differences in language, perception, and motor skills, and through even larger social phenomena."
SFPRG The San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group is now affiliated with Behavior OnLine. SFPRG conducts empirical research into psychotherapeutic processes and tests new concepts and theories about the development and treatment of psychopathology. The groups' research on "Control Mastery", springs from the clinical observations of psychoanalyst Joseph Weiss, and is so named to emphasize that the patient can exercise control over mental life and the unconscious mind, and the wish to acknowledge and master traumatic experiences which have inhibited development. You may join a discussion about Control Mastery with Jessica Broitman.
Our work with The Gestalt Journal continues to evolve. We are now linked with The Gestalt Therapy Page, a joint project of The Gestalt Journal Press (the principal publisher on this topic) and the International Gestalt Therapy Association (the principal organization in the field). The Gestalt Therapy Page contains a rich selection of resources including current News and Notes about the global Gestalt community and important archival material. More news about this soon. You may join a discussion about Gestalt Therapy with Brian O'Neill.
