Cool DHA & Impulsive Children

I've speculated that omega-3 fatty acids, given to pregnant, stressed women, should produce a less impulsive child. Stephen Suomi found, for example, that omega-3s in lab chow for rhesus "washed out" the effects of maternal deprivation, a treatment that usually results in a more active, more aggressive, more apt-to-be injured, and an alcoholic, offspring. The following is in line with that (very loose!) speculation. (I once suggested to Phil Rushton that he and I hop a chopper and scatter capsules in Gaza!)

"Research has shown that children who were breast fed as infants have superior cognitive skills compared to those fed infant formula, and it's thought that this is due to an essential fatty acid in breast milk called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Now a new study has found that babies fed formula supplemented with DHA have higher cognitive skills than babies fed regular formula."
