This is old stuff. The behavior genetics crowd generally reports that parental influence on children wanes after the child passes his or her eighth birthday...that is, "chosen environments" overcome imposed ones.
Further, I recall a storm from Dr. Laura and local radio hosts contested Temple research that children are remarkably resilient to sexual abuse. The interesting question might be why is it that so few people accept the science...
