1) Churchill wrote once that the Jews are exceptional and they would be treated better if they made some effort to blend with the average Brit. The reason for their separation may lie with them as much as with the rest of us. Kuramoto again comes to mind: synchrony is a function of similarity and mutual influence, whether in Josephson junctions, generator networks, clock pendulums, traffic flow, and probably mate selection. (Implication: even psychopaths are more apt to ally with another psychopath!)
2) The Galician town of Brody lies near the western border of the Ukraine, Belarussia, and Poland. At the start of WW2, its 25,000 population included 15,000 Jews. Another 12,000 fled to Brody from other parts of Europe. The Nazis opened their first "death camp" at nearby Belzec in March 1942. Eighty-eight survived the next year or two.
One website remarks "German units captured the town on 1 July 1941 and were warmly welcomed by the local Ukrainian population." This was a common response in many communities that were dominated by Moscow and hated Stalin and the Bolsheviks. (See, for example, the later edition of Kuznetzov's Babi Yar.)

"...studies established that the Y chromosomes of kohanim—male Jews said to descend from the priestly caste whose supposed progenitor was the biblical Aaron—had their own unique DNA signature, labeled the Cohen Modal Haplotype. Not only did half of all kohanim, who comprise about four percent of the world's Jewish population, share this DNA configuration, but minor mutations in it pointed to a common ancestor who lived a few centuries before or after 1000 B.C.E.—that is, close to the period in which Aaron and his brother Moses are situated by biblical chronology.
